What sets us apart
We have a long-standing tradition of only distributing label catalogues that the majority of the Indigo crew fully support. Sometimes this decision is guided by clear reasoning, other times by instinct – but in the end, it is all about consensus. Nevertheless, our distribution catalogue is anything but monotonous, it is a lively mix of dynamic and diverse content. In fact, it is easier to name the few genres that we do not embrace than the many we truly support.
Each member of our team comes with their own musical roots and personal preferences, and this is what powers our extensive repertoire expertise. As if by magic, we can always find a qualified expert for every style of music. In our discussions and decisions, we are guided by a simple golden rule: there is music that really is music – and some that just isn’t. This commitment to quality is the foundation of the entire Indigo catalogue, and it is something we all appreciate.

The labels are our eyes and ears, and we trust their sharp instincts. Because they already know what tomorrow’s fans will want to hear. They are always one step ahead because they believe in the success of their artists.
Indigo’s relationship with our labels is close, open and refreshingly down-to-earth. Sometimes we engage in friendly debate, but in the end we always see eye to eye. Because our interests and major goals are one hundred percent aligned.
We see our distribution labels as more than just suppliers. They are truly the heart and soul of everything we do, providing the content that drives our entire operation. Our shared success relies on valuing their interests just as highly as we value pursuing our own goals or meeting the needs of our retail customers. In all our partnerships, we continually strive to achieve harmonious, win-win outcomes. Being Hanseatic merchants at heart, we firmly believe that relationships built on mutual benefit are not only more enduring but also more rewarding and enjoyable.
Label management serves as the interface between label and distribution. Our label managers see themselves as advocates for the interests of ‘their’ labels within the distribution network. And that is exactly how it should be, because with this mindset, nothing gets overlooked. Our team of six label managers ensure seamless coordination between the record companies and Indigo. Each label has its own dedicated manager as a consistent, reliable point of contact. This one-contact approach makes it easy and efficient for our partners to navigate even the more complex aspects of distribution.
The label manager’s responsibilities include product consulting, release planning, coordination with all distribution departments, oversight of marketing activities and liaising with the sales team. They are also in charge of merchandise planning, stock control and sales analysis. That is plenty to stay on top of, and the label managers are the unsung heroes behind the scenes of our operation. They are always available to lend a sympathetic ear to the concerns, wishes and brilliant, or even wild, ideas of our business associates. Of course, most of the time they are taking care of day-to-day operations, but at Indigo, label management means much more.
Two dozen leading independent labels from Europe and the United States form the inner circle of our distribution family. However, we take care of a total of 150 record companies, many of which are proven specialists in their field. Altogether, this adds up to a catalogue of 17,500 titles, and new releases are added every week. So we can offer retailers a catalogue that is as artistically impressive as it is commercially strong.
Time and again, it is our labels, and not just the artists they represent, that inspire us to recognise what is good, beautiful and truly meaningful. Through their content, their values and their unique vision. Because in their own way, they too make a genuine cultural contribution. Welcome to our very own Walk of Fame, a space to showcase some of our favourite labels. Each tile leads to a distinct creative universe, and we are happy to let our labels speak for themselves.
